Lillestrøm Strike Early to Leave Jotun Arena Silenced

2 min read

Sandefjord fell 0-2 at home to Lillestrøm on Sunday evening at Jotun Arena. Two goals inside the first 25 minutes, from Thomas Lehne Olsen and Eric Kitolano, proved decisive. The result leaves the hosts 13th in the Eliteserien, level on points with Aalesund below them.

Lehne Olsen and Kitolano strike early

The game was effectively decided inside the first 25 minutes. Thomas Lehne Olsen put Lillestrøm ahead early on, heading in a cross from inside the box. The ball found its way past Elias Hadaya in the Sandefjord goal.

Hadaya was clearly hurt in the incident and stayed down for treatment. Ten minutes after the opener, Lillestrøm struck again. Another cross found Eric Kitolano in the area, and he stretched out a toe to steer the ball home. BBC match data credits Fredrik Elkær with the assist for the first goal and Sondre Ottesen with the assist for the second.

Goalkeeper change disrupts the hosts

The afternoon went from bad to worse for the hosts when Hadaya was unable to continue. Alf Lukas Grønneberg, the club's number one, came on and played well. Not much more happened before the break, and the sides went in at 0-2.

Lillestrøm arrived in Sandefjord fresh from success in Europe, and they looked sharp in front of goal. Their two early chances ended up as goals.

Sandefjord dominate the ball but lack a cutting edge

Sandefjord controlled much of the possession after the restart, but they struggled to create chances good enough to get back into the game. There were attempts from Sander Risan Mørk and Edvard Sundbø Pettersen. Ervin Gigovic also tried a free kick that was close to finding a way through, but none of them produced a goal.

Lillestrøm sat deep in the second half and looked to hit on the counter. They came close to a third, but Grønneberg kept it out with a fingertip save. The match gradually ran out of energy and finished 0-2.

What it means in the table

After 23 games, Sandefjord are 13th in the Eliteserien with 24 points. Aalesund in 14th are level on 24 points. Kristiansund have 19 points in 15th, and Start are bottom with 16.

Lillestrøm are sixth on 36 points. That is one point behind fifth-placed Rosenborg, who have 37.

Next up for Sandefjord

The next fixture is away. Sandefjord travel to face Start on 25 October, with kick-off at 17:00. Back at Jotun Arena, the club has invited supporters to a club evening on Thursday 5 November at 18:00.
