Late Viking Equaliser Robs Sandefjord of Home Win
Sandefjord Fotball were denied all three points at Jotun Arena on 4 September after Viking FK equalised deep into stoppage time. Børkeeiet's second-half opener looked set to seal a memorable win, but the reigning champions levelled to make it 1-1. The result leaves Sandefjord 12th in the Eliteserien standings.
A Dramatic Night Under the Floodlights
Sandefjord Fotball were on course for a famous victory at Jotun Arena on 4 September, when Børkeeiet handed the hosts the lead early in the second half against last season's Eliteserien champions.
For long stretches, it looked as though Sandefjord would claim all three points in what would have been a statement result at home. But Viking refused to go quietly, and a late equaliser deep into stoppage time denied the hosts — leaving the final scoreline at 1-1.
Points Dropped, But Spirits High
The draw means Sandefjord remain 12th in the Eliteserien standings after 19 rounds, with 20 points to their name. While the manner of the result — conceding so late — will sting, the performance showed the side are capable of competing with Norway's elite on their own artificial turf at Nygårdsveien 84.
Jotun Arena's floodlit atmosphere for the 9:00 PM kick-off gave the occasion a unique intensity, and supporters turned out in numbers to back the side through what was a tense and eventful 90 minutes.
What Comes Next
Attention now turns to an away trip to Bodø/Glimt on 14 September, before Jotun Arena hosts IK Start on 20 September — the next home fixture on what is a packed second-half calendar.
Further home games against Lillestrøm, Molde, Tromsø, and Vålerenga are all still to come, giving the Sandefjord faithful plenty more to look forward to before the season draws to a close in December.
